Forget those generic cans of apple pie filling and make your own in no time at all. This gooey filling can also be used in more desserts other than pie, so get to experimenting!

  • 4 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 5 T. water, divided
  • 2 T. butter
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/3 C. sugar
  • 1 T. + 1 tsp. cornstarch

In a saucepan, melt butter and stir in cinnamon. Add in apples, sugar, and 3 tablespoons of water. Cook and stir for 5 to 7 minutes until apples become tender. In a small bowl, whisk together cornstarch and remaining water; add to apple mixture, cook, and stir until filling thickens. Set aside to cool or transfer to a bowl, cover, and refrigerate overnight. Spoon into your pie crust and baking according to your pie recipe.
