Grandma's Molasses Cookies

Dark, soft and delicious! I remember my mom going North to bring grandma back to our house just to make alot of these cookies. Watching grandma make them, I always wondered how she knew when to stop putting in the flour, she NEVER measured anything when she made these cookies. I was always in awe of her ! I can't believe I have never seen this recipe anywhere. It's really good. Every bite reminds me of her. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

  • 1 C. white sugar
  • 1 C. sour milk
  • 1 C. shortening
  • 1 tsp. soda in milk
  • 1 C. molasses
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 2 Tbs. vanilla
  • dash of salt (1/2 tsp.)
  • enough flour to form soft dough

Cream sugar and shortening, then add molasses. Combine cinnamon, salt and some flour (start with 1 1/2 C.) and continue to add flour to soft dough. Pat out to 3/4-1/2 inches and cut out with a floured glass, on a floured surface. Bake @ 345 degrees for 12 minutes.
