A great basic pie crust recipe with a secret from grandma!

  • 3 C. all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/4 C. shortening
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 Tbs. distilled white vinegar
  • 4 Tbs. water

In large bowl mix flour and salt. Cut in shortening with two butter knifes. In separate bowl, mix together egg, vinegar, and water. Drizzle wet mixture into dry mixture, cutting it in. Roll out dough, and fit into 2 9-inch pie pans. Bake at 425 degrees for 12 minutes.

  • I have been using this recipe for years but when I got it from m grandmther we used lard. It is still my fav when I want that special pie. Works up well nd doesn't toughen up.
