  • 1 C. rolled oats
  • 1/2 C. molasses
  • 2 tsp. butter
  • 1 Tbs. butter
  • 2 C. boiling water
  • 1 package dry yeast
  • 1/2 C. warm water
  • 5-5 1/2 C. flour

Combine oats, molasses, salt, butter, and boiling water. Stir and let stand until lukewarm. Mix yeast with warm water and stir into oatmeal. Add 4 1/2 C. flour. Beat well and knead in bowl (dough will be sticky). Let rise until doubled in bulk. Punch down and add enough remaining flour to make dough firm enough to knead on floured board. Shape into loaves and put into 2 greased 8x4” loaf pans. Let rise until light and nearly doubled. Bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes.

Yield: 2 medium loaves
