Ham and cheese paninis are an absolute winner with the kids! They are very simple and quick to make. These tasty treats can be served as lunch, a lovely winter's midnight snack or popped into the kids lunch boxes. This is a relatively inexpensive recipe that can be adjusted according to your individual taste.

  • 12 slices of Italian bread
  • 6 slices of your favorite deli ham
  • 6 tablespoons of Dijon mustard
  • 3 tablespoons of butter
  • thinly sliced tomato
  • 12 slices of cheddar cheese

Spread the Dijon mustard on each slice of Italian bread. Place 2 slices of cheese on top of 6 of the slices of bread. Add slices of tomato on top of that, then add a slice of ham on top of the cheese. Close the paninis with the remaining slices. Heat the butter in a large saucepan and cook the paninis until they are lovely and brown. Serve with a side salad if you wish.
