My Mother instilled my core values of life and cooking skills, now Recipe4Living allows me the opportunity to expand on culinary skills. I love it. There are countless ways my Mother has committed her lifetime to family, community, church, and country through food thoughtfulness and volumes of volunteerism. She gives of herself for others, whether it be to her children she raised 7, her family as one of 13 children, the senior citizens in need of transportation, or fundraiser dinners for the local veterans hall with a large mortgage. She can cook for 50 easier than a family of 2 and puts this talent to use. For over 50 years, the family has held an annual Chicken BBQ on Mother's Day and this family tradition is now carried on at their mini-farm. My grandfather had a milk dairy and another uncle raised chickens. Put homemade ice cream, and pit barbecued chicken together with family and it makes for a memorable occasion. I will share with you some of her recipes for this BBQ that have been in the family for as long as I can remember. People always rave about my mom's ham loaf and I use the recipe often.

  • 1 lb. ham
  • 1 egg
  • 1 C. cracker crumbs
  • 1 C. milk
  • Sauce:
  • 1/2 C. brown sugar
  • 1/4 C. vinegar
  • 1/2 C. water
