Health Bread
Ingredients
- 3 C. oatmeal
- 3 tsp. salt
- 2 Tbs. shortening
- 1 C. raisins
- 3 C. boiling water
- 1 cake compressed yeast
- 1 C. lukewarm water
- 1 C. molasses
- 1 C. bran
- 1 C. whole wheat flour
- 4-5 C. flour
Directions
Combine oatmeal, salt, shortening, raisins, and boiling water in large bowl and cool to lukewarm. Add yeast dissolved in lukewarm water, molasses, bran, and whole wheat flour; beat vigorously until well-mixed. Add flour to form a soft dough. Knead on floured surface until stiff enough to handle. Place in a grease bowl and let rise in a moderately warm place until double in bulk. Mold into 3 loaves, place in greased loaf pans, and let rise until very light. Bake in 350 degree oven for 1 hour.
