Herb Onion Batter Bread
Ingredients
- 1/2 C. milk
- 1 1/2 Tbs. granulated sugar
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 1/4 tsp. butter or margarine
- 1 pkg. active dry yeast
- 1/2 C. warm water
- 2 1/4 C. sifted all purpose flour
- 1 Tbs. minced fresh green onion or chives
- 1/2 tsp. dried basil, thyme and oregano
- 1-2 Tbs. melted butter or margarine
Directions
Scald the milk, remove from heat and stir in the sugar, salt and butter until they are dissolved. Cool to lukewarm. In a large bowl dissolve yeast in warm water. Add cooled milk mixture. Stir flour into the yeast mixture. Add the onion or chives, and herbs. Stir together until blended for about 2 minutes. Cover and let rise 45 minutes until triple in bulk. Stir down and beat vigorously for about 30 seconds. Place the dough into a greased 8" cake pan or a 9" pie pan. Bake 1 hour at 350 degrees F. When the bread is done brush with melted butter.
