Homemade chocolate-dipped orange candies are elegant yet simple. They're flavorful as bite-sized snacks or on top of your favorite ice creams or cakes.

  • 5 navel oranges
  • 1½ C. sugar
  • 1½ C. water
  • 8 oz. bittersweet chocolate

Cut clean oranges into quarters and separate the rinds (Save the flesh for a snack or another recipe in a plastic bag)

Cut the rinds into thin strips about a ¼ in. thick

In a deep pan or pot, add ½ C. cold water and heat to a boil

Add the rinds and simmer for 20 minutes

In different pan, mix 1½ cups sugar and the remaining water over medium/low heat

Dissolve sugar, and add peels

Simmer until soft

Remove, and cool over wire racks for one hour

Melt chocolate in double boiler or microwave

Drop each orange peel into the chocolate, and place on wax paper. Use a toothpick or fork

Refrigerate at least one hour before serving
