If you have ever read the ingredients list on a can of nacho cheese, you know that there are more ingredients that you can't pronounce than ones you can. Homemade Nacho Cheese Sauce is a great alternative that allows you to control just what is going into your food. Cheese sauce is fairly simple to make and tastes amazing! Serve on top of your favorite nachos and you will have an appetizer nobody can resist!

  • 8 oz. smoked cheddar cheese, grated
  • 8 oz. sharp cheddar cheese, grated
  • 4 oz. Muenster cheese, grated
  • 4 oz. cream cheese
  • 1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 C. butter, melted
  • 3 Tbs. flour
  • 3 C. milk
  • 1/2 tsp. paprika
  • salt and pepper to taste

Heat the butter in a large pot
Whisk the flour into the butter and continue to whisk as the mixture cooks, for another 3 minutes
Gradually pour the milk into the mixture, whisking vigorously to combine
Simmer the sauce over low heat, stirring, until thickened. This should take around five minutes
Stir the spices into the mixture and combine completely
Add the cheeses gradually, stirring constantly until the cheese is all melted
Season to taste with salt and pepper and serve over nachos
