Hot Buttered Rum

Hot Buttered Rum

A classic holiday favorite, this after-dinner drink will really warm up your White Christmas.

Ingredients

  • 2/3 C. packed dark brown sugar
  • 1/2 C. (1 stick) unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1/4 C. honey
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 tsp. ground cloves
  • Pinch salt
  • 3/4 C. spiced rum
  • 2 C. boiling water
  • 4 sticks cinnamon, for garnish

Directions

Using an electric mixer, beat the brown sugar, butter, honey, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt in a medium bowl until blended and smooth. Transfer the mixture to a 4 C. (or larger) measuring cup. Add the rum and then 2 C. of boiling water. Stir until the butter mixture dissolves. Divide the buttered rum among 4 mugs. Garnish with the cinnamon sticks and serve.

  • Oh forgot to say that you don't need to do anything but put the apple juce, along with a touch of spices in each mug and mic the juice to heat, not boil. Then add the rum and place a very scant pat of real, unsalted butter in each mug along with a cinnamon stick (more for show if you have added ground cinnamon already.

  • Oh my gosh, this is so much better if you leave the sugar and honey out and instead of water, use the cheapest, or store brand apple juice and just dark rum (again cheaper) and LESS spices.

    Mine is so much easier, quicker and better. Try it, you will like it.
