  • 2 1/4 teaspoons dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon melted shortening
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 4 cups flour (can use 2 cups wheat, 2 cups white)
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water

First, sprinkle the yeast into 1/2 a cup of the warm water. In a large bowl, dissolve sugar and salt in the remaining cup of water. Add the shortening and yeast mixture. Slowly add flour, mixing well with a wooden spoon.


Turn the dough onto floured surface. Divide it into two balls. Let rest for a few minutes then work into pans. Top with toppings and bake 18-25 minutes (longer for more toppings) until golden brown at 350 degrees.
