  • 1/3 C. sliced almonds
  • ¼ C. all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp. baking powder
  • 2oz. milk chocolate
  • ½ stick unsalted butter
  • ½ C. granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. pure vanilla
  • 1 Lg. egg
  • 1/3 C. semisweet chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 375°F and line an 8 x 4 x 3-inch pan with parchment paper. Toast almonds on a cookie sheet in the middle of the oven until golden. Sift dry ingredients in a small bowl, then fold a pinch of salt into this mixture. Melt chocolate butter in a double boiler, or using a metal bowl sitting over a saucepan with a low boil. Stir frequently until smooth. Remove from heat and fold in sugar and vanilla, mix well. Whisk egg into mixture and stir in half of almonds and dry ingredients.
Pour batter into lined baking pan, sprinkle rest of almonds and put in preheated oven on the middle shelf. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until toothpick comes clean. Cool brownies in pan on a rack 5 minutes and lift out foil with brownies onto rack. Cut brownies into desired serving pieces and serve.
