Irish Country Soda Bread

A wonderful, old family recipe for Irish soda bread. This recipe requires no yeast and the batter is easy to make. Tastes good with everything.

  • 1 1/2 C. buttermilk
  • 2 Tbs. butter or margarine, melted
  • 1 lg. egg, slightly beaten
  • 1 1/2 C. raisins
  • 3 C. all purpose flour
  • 2/3 C. sugar
  • 1 Tbs. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. salt

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan. Mix together, buttermilk, egg, butter and raisins. Add dry ingredients and mix until combined. Spoon into prepared pan. Bake 50-55 minutes. Insert toothpick to test for doneness. Cool on rack.
