  • 4 C. flour
  • 4 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 4 Tbsp. cold butter, diced
  • 1 2/3 C. cold buttermilk, shaken
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 tsp. grated orange zest
  • 1 C. dried currants

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Mix the flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt in a bowl. Add the butter and mix on low speed until incorporated. Beat the buttermilk, egg, and orange zest together in a small bowl and slowly add to the flour mixture. Combine the currants with a bit of flour and add into the dough. Knead the dough a few times in a round loaf. Put the loaf on a pan and cut an X into the top. Bake for 45 minutes.
