Extra pasta sauce sounds like a perfect excuse to whip up some fantastically seasoned mozzarella sticks. This appetizer recipe is too simple to pass up!

  • 16 oz. block mozzarella cheese
  • 1 C. breadcrumbs, Italian style
  • ½ tsp. oregano
  • ½ tsp. garlic powder
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 large eggs
  • oil for frying
  • pasta sauce

Cut up mozzarella block into 1/2-inch sticks (or desired thickness). In one bowl, whisk eggs, and in another, combine breadcrumbs, oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Coat each mozzarella stick in egg mixture first, and then coat evenly with breadcrumbs. Place sticks on a plate and allow them to sit and set up for 5 minutes before repeating the egg and breadcrumb dip process one more time. For best results, transfer sticks into the freezer for at least one hour. Once firm, fry them in oil in a skillet or deep fryer and serve with pasta sauce.
