Italian Vegetable Green Bean Casserole

Yummy Italian green bean casserole is always a big hit with my family!

  • 4 cans flat Italian green beans
  • 6 slices of bacon, cut up
  • 1 onion
  • 1/4 C. red wine
  • salt
  • pepper
  • dried or fresh parsley
  • 3 cloves garlic, smashed
  • 1 tsp. olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp. oregano
  • 2 lb. lean ground beef
  • 3 cans tomato sauce
  • 1 can of diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 can water

Cut and fry onions. Cut bacon with scissors into frying pan. Add hamburger meat, salt, pepper, fresh or dried parsley, red wine, smashed garlic cloves and olive oil. Cook until bacon, onions, hamburger and seasoning are brown. Then drain and add the green Italian flat beans to mixture as well as the tomato sauce and diced tomatoes. Cover, but let steam from the lid escape (don't cover all the way).

Stir every so often on low to medium heat. Be careful not to burn. Check to see when beans are finished cooking. Put in bowl, keep warm and serve.

  • Sounds good, but wish I knew the amounts of tomato sauce. I am going to try it, but I need to half it and will try for me, just a small can of tomato paste and a large can of tomatoes? If you get a chance will you say how much of tomatoes?
