Add in all the classic ingredients into some homemade chili but this time spice it up with the addition of hot and spicy jalapeno peppers. Give this spicy treat a try!

  • 2 lb. lean ground beef
  • 3 Tbs. vegetable oil
  • 2 medium yellow onions, diced
  • 1 medium red bell pepper, diced
  • 6 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • ¼ C. chili powder
  • ½ Tbs. cayenne pepper powder
  • 1 Tbs. ground cumin
  • 1 ½ tsp. salt
  • 28 oz. can diced tomatoes
  • 14 oz. can tomato sauce
  • 15 oz. kidney beans, drained and rinse
  • ¼ C. pickled jalapenos, drained and chopped
  • Sharp cheddar cheese, grated

In a large frying pan, heat the oil over medium heat until shimmering. Add the onions and bell pepper, season with salt, and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened, about 8 minutes. Add the garlic, chili powder, cumin, and cayenne pepper powder into pan to coat the vegetables and cook for about a minute. Add the ground beef and measured salt and cook, breaking the meat into pieces with a wooden spoon until meat is not pink, 7 minutes. Move mixture in pan to crock pot. Add diced tomatoes and their juices, tomato sauce, and beans. Stir to combine. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or 6 hours on high. Stir in jalapenos. Taste and season with salt as needed. Add some cheddar cheese on top when serving.
