  • 9 T. unsalted butter, divided
  • 1 loaf Italian-style bread, sliced 1/2-inch thick
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/3 C. sugar
  • 2 tsp. pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
  • 3/4 tsp. kosher salt, divided
  • 2 C. whole milk
  • 1 C. heavy cream
  • 1 C. pumpkin pie puree
  • 3/4 C. packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 C. all-purpose flour
  • 1 C. chopped pecans

Grease the inside of a three-quart casserole dish with one tablespoon of butter. Add the bread to the prepared baking dish. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, sugar, pumpkin pie spice, vanilla, and 1/2-teaspoon of salt. Gradually add milk and cream. Pour egg mixture over the bread slices. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Preheat your oven to 350°F. In a medium bowl, combine brown sugar, flour, and salt. Cut in eight tablespoons of butter and use your fingers to form a crumbled mixture. Sprinkle sugar mixture on top of bread and top with pecans. Bake for 45 minutes. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.
