Marinara Sauce

This simple tomato sauce is so versatile! Use it on pasta, with eggplant parmesan or any other recipe that calls for red sauce.

Ingredients

  • 3 Tbs. olive oil
  • 1 small sweet yellow onion, diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 Tbs. sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 C. fresh chopped basil or 1 tsp. dried
  • 1 32 oz. can tomato puree or fresh
  • 1 32 oz. crushed plum tomatoes or fresh

Directions

Sauté onions and garlic 5 minutes. Add basil, puree, tomatoes and sugar. Season with salt and pepper. Simmer 1 1/2 hours uncovered.

Yield: 5-6 cups
