This apple pie recipe is inspired by the healthier, baked version of McDonald's sweet and cheap dessert.

  • For Crust:
  • 1 puff pastry sheet
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted
  • 1 C. water
  • For Apple Pie Filling:
  • 2 C. Apples, peeled and chopped
  • ½ C. apple cider
  • ¼ sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp lemon zest
  • salt, to taste
  • 2 tbsp flour

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.

To make the filling, combine the apples, cider, cinnamon, lemon juice, zest, sugar and salt in a saucepan over medium heat until bubbles appear. Stir in flour and cook for two more minutes, before taking the saucepan off of the heat and letting the filling cool.
Unroll the pastry puff sheet and cut out 6-inch circles. Fill each circle with 1/3 cup of filling, and fold over the top part of the circle, creating a turnover shape. Wet the edges of the turnover with water and seal with a fork. Brush each pastry with the melted butter and sprinkle on the cinnamon.
Bake the puff pastries for 10-15 minutes.
