  • 1 Tbs. oil
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 lb. lean ground beef
  • 2 tsp. sea salt, divided
  • 2 Tbs. tomato paste
  • 1 C. water
  • 1 (28 oz.) can diced tomatoes
  • 1 (15 oz.) can tomato puree
  • 1 C. carrots, grated
  • 1 medium red bell pepper, diced
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 tsp. onion powder
  • 2 Tbs dried Italian herbs
  • 1 bay leaf

Heat 1 Tbs. oil in a skillet and cook the onions for 4 minutes. Add the beef and 1 tsp. salt. Cook for an additional 4 minutes, making sure to break apart the meat as it cooks. Put the meat and onions to the crockpot. Whisk 2 Tbs. tomato paste into 1 C. water until the paste dissolves. Add the paste mixture to the crockpot, along with the remaining ingredients. Stir to combine. Cook on low heat for 6 to 8 hours. 15 to 20 minutes before serving, stir in the pasta. Turn the heat to high and cook.
