  • 2 C. flour
  • 1 Tbs. ground ginger
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 C. shortening
  • 1 C. sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 C. dark molasses
  • 1/3 C. cinnamon sugar

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

In a bowl, combine the flour, ginger, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt. Stir to blend evenly. In a second bowl, beat the shortening until creamy. Gradually beat in the sugar. Beat in the egg and molasses. Add 1/3 of the flour mixture into the shortening mixture. Stir to blend completely. Add in the remaining flour mixture, blending until a soft dough forms.

Roll the dough into 1-in balls and then roll each ball into the cinnamon sugar. Put them 2 in. apart on the baking sheet. Bake for 10 minutes, or until the tops are rounded slightly and cracked. Cool on a wire rack.
