Million-Dollar Fudge

This recipe needs a bit of care. It needs to be stirred constantly while the sugar and milk are boiling. But if you do that, you'll have some of the best fudge you have ever eaten.

Ingredients

  • 4 1/2 C. sugar
  • 15-oz. can evaporated milk
  • 1 C. butter
  • 12-oz. package semisweet chocolate chips
  • 6-oz. package semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1-oz. square unsweetened chocolate, chopped
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 C. chopped walnuts, if desired

Directions

Butter a 13-by-9-inch pan and set aside. In heavy saucepan, combine sugar and milk. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. This mixture burns very easily. You may notice little brown bits starting to float in the mixture -- that's ok. As long as the bits aren't black, you'll be fine. Just stir harder! When the mixture comes to a boil, boil for 10 minutes, stirring constantly. Place remaining ingredients in a large bowl. When the sugar mixture has boiled 10 minutes, pour it into the large bowl over the other ingredients. Beat and blend until mixture is melted and smooth. Pour into prepared pan, and let cool. Cover and let sit for 12 hours before cutting.

Serves 24.

  • To keep from burning your sugar and milk mixture, try usin a doubleboiler, takes a few minutes longer but no burning!
