Mixed-Nut Brittle Bars

These crunchy and chewy bars bring rave reviews from all palates. They store well, so they're perfect for gift baskets too.

  • 1 1/2 C. flour
  • 3/4 C. packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 C. softened butter
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 C. light corn syrup
  • 1 C. butterscotch chips
  • 2 Tbs. water
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 11.5-oz. can of mixed nuts

Spray or grease a 13x9-inch baking pan. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Combine the 1st 4 ingredients in a large bowl. Beat at low speed, until butter looks like small peas. Press crumb mixture into pan. Bake for 8-10 minutes. While the crust is baking, put next 5 ingredients into a 2-qt. saucepan. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly until mixture is smooth (about 5 minutes). Remove from heat and stir in nuts until well-coated. Spread nut mixture over hot crust. Continue baking for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly. Cool completely. Cut into triangle-shaped bars.
