Ingredients

1 C. brown sugar
1 C. sour milk
1/3 C. molasses
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 C shortening
1/2 C. raisins
1 egg 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 1/2 tsp. soda
2 C. flour

Directions

Cream shortening. Add sugar and mix until well blended. Mix salt, soda and spices with the flour. Beat egg with molasses and sour milk. Add dry and liquid ingredients alternately to creamed mixture. Add raisins. Mix smooth. Pour into greased and flour-dusted 8x12-inch cake pan. Bake for 40 minutes in a moderate 350-degree oven. Turn out of pan. Cool and ice.
