Mom's Homemade Pretzels
Serving Size / Yield
- 1 1/2 cups lukewarm water
- 1 pkg. active instant yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 Tablespoon sugar
- 4 1/4 cups flour
- 1 large egg, beaten
- coarse sea salt for sprinkling
Preheat your oven to 425 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Dissolve the package of yeast in warm water. Whisky quickly with a fork for a minute.
Sift the sugar, salt, and flour together and slowly add to the mix, stirring throughout. Use a large spoon and mix until thickened. Add flour to the dough until it is no longer sticky. The dough should bounce back when poked.
Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5 minutes or until it forms a ball. Cut into 1/3 C. sections.
Roll each dough piece into a rope. Draw the ends of each rope up and into a pretzel shape.
Mix the egg with a splash of water and dip the pretzels into the egg wash. Place onto a baking sheet, liberally sprinkle with salt and bake for 15 minutes or until cooked through.
Cool and enjoy.
