Start any meal off right with these golden beer-battered onion rings. These contain the right amount of beer flavor to make for the perfect snack on game day without leaving your house. The refreshing horseradish sauce is a fantastic combination with this scrumptious appetizer.

  • 2 large onions, peeled
  • 1 ½ C. all-purpose flour
  • ¾ C. beer
  • 2 eggs, separated
  • 1 tsp. lemon juice
  • 1 qt. oil
  • ½ tsp. salt

Slice onions to create thick slices. Remove as many rings as desired; preferably larger rings. In a medium bowl, beat egg yolks. Mix in salt and beer of your choice. Set aside ½ C. of flour. Mix remaining flour into egg and beer mixture. Refrigerate mixture for at least 30 minutes. In a small bowl, beat the egg whites and add to mixture.

In a medium pot, heat oil over medium-high heat or 375 degrees. Place flour bowl and egg mixture next to each other. Submerge the onion ring in the flour then the egg mixture. Repeat for each ring. Place a few rings in at a time and cook for about 3 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oil and place on paper towel bed. Serve with horseradish sauce.
