Ingredients

  • 1 C. dark brown sugar, packed
  • 3/4 C. sugar
  • 1/4 C. molasses
  • 1/4 C. shortening
  • 1 T. butter, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 1/2 C. all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 tsp. ground ginger
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cloves
  • 1/4 C. water

Directions

Preheat oven to 350°F. In a large bowl, cream together sugars, molasses, shortening, butter, egg, and vanilla. In another large bowl, mix flour, baking soda, ginger, salt, cinnamon, and cloves. Pour dry ingredients into the wet mixture and beat while adding water. Mix until well incorporated. Roll the dough into spheres and press dough onto cookie sheet. Bake for 12 minutes. Serve at room temperature.
