My mom came across this recipe in the early 80s. She had five young grandchildren at the time, so this became a mandatory treat for birthdays and holidays. Since her passing, I have become the Nana and this recipe has now been mandatory for three generations. It is easy to put together and is very good.

Time needed

60 min preparation

Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. Oreos
  • 8 oz. room temperature cream cheese
  • 16 oz. Cool Whip
  • 1 lg. pkg. instant chocolate pudding
  • 3/4 C. butter, melted
  • Optional decoration:
  • Oreo crumbs
  • mini Oreos
  • chocolate sprinkles

Directions

Crumble Oreos in food processor or blender until fine. Mix with butter. Press into a sprayed 9x13-inch pan. Refrigerate for 1 hour. Mix half of the Cool Whip with cream cheese with a  mixer. Spread over chilled crust carefully. Put pudding mixture on next layer. Before serving, top with the rest of the Cool Whip and decorate with mini Oreos, Oreo crumbs or chocolate sprinkles if desired. Keep refrigerated.

Alternative: I have also put in a layer of white chocolate pudding mixed with 1/2 cup of peanut butter, and have used low fat, sugar free, and sugar free cookies if needed.
