This delicious cranberry sauce was given to me by a friend whose grandmother was an Ojibwa Indian. She made it for them whenever there was fresh game for the table. You'll never use canned sauce again.

  • 1 1/2 C. pure maple syrup
  • 1/2 C. water
  • 1 tsp. ground ginger
  • 4 C. fresh cranberries

Bring syrup, water and ginger to boil in heavy 2 1/2-qt. saucepan over medium heat. Stir in cranberries. Simmer until berries begin to pop, about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Mash lightly. Turn into bowl and let cool. Cover and refigerate.
