  • Right offhand I do not see the number of cookies this makes, but with two cups of flour and only a half cup of solid shortening, it looks like a lot, which means you wouldn't be getting much shortening per cookie!! Besides, if you are looking for diet, low-fat, low-sugar, low everything food, don't make cookies. They are not intended to be health food. They are fun food. I know Dee didn't mean to be critical, but I get really upset of people making comments on the "healthiness" of food that is obviously not intended as "health food." I think the Food Police have ruined SO much of our enjoyment of food by trying to scare us out of common, ordinary, good things we should be able to enjoy in moderation using the brains God gave us when deciding portions.

  • Only thing that would make me hesitate on this recipe is the (solid shortening) 'cause I have gained enough pounds and with my age, I need to keep the "pipes" as clean as I can. It really appears to be an original (old fashioned) cookie recipe though. I'll give it a try and add a little cinnamon in mine and see how it goes. Thanks, Dee
