Old German Spice Cake

This quick and easy cake is so easy you'll want to make it for every occasion. With lots of yummy spices and raisins, it's perfect for any dessert need.

  • 2 C. brown sugar
  • 3/4 C. lard (Tenderflake or Crisco)
  • 2-3 egg yolks
  • 2 tsp. ground cloves
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 tsp. allspice
  • 2 C. flour
  • 1 C. cold water
  • 3 stiffly beaten egg whites
  • 1/4 C. well-washed raisins

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix sugar and lard. Add yolks, spices, flour and water. Fold in egg whites. Add raisins. Bake in greased and floured loaf pan for 35-45 minutes.
