Orange Bread with Nuts and Dates

1 large loaf


  • 1 C. dates
  • 1/2 C. water
  • 1/4 C. butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1 C. sugar
  • 2 C. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 C. chopped nuts
  • 1 orange

Grate the entire rind of the orange and set aside.  Puree remaining fruit of the orange and set aside in a mixing bowl.  Cook dates, water, and butter over medium heat until dates are softened completely.  Combine simmered date mixture and blended orange in mixing bowl and blend thoroughly.  Stir in grated orange peel.  Add remaining dry ingredients gradually blending well.  Grease one 8"x4" loaf pan and fill with batter.  Bake for 60-65 minutes in a 350 degree oven.
