Orange Cream Scones
Ingredients
- 1 3/4 C. self-rising flour
- 1 tsp. cream of tartar
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/4 C. sugar
- 1/4 C. butter (1/2 stick)
- 1/2 C. currants
- 2/3 C. milk or light cream
- 1/2 tsp. orange extract
Directions
Sift first four ingredients. Cut in butter until it resembles coarse meal. Add currants. Mix milk with orange extract and pour mixture into flour mixture. Stir until mixed. Form into ball and roll or pat to 1/2 inch on floured surface and cut into 8 wedges. Brush with egg white. Sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 450 degrees for 10-12 minutes.
