Our Custard Pie

My husband's favorite pie; a regular (in both of our homes) when we were teenagers in the '50s!

Ingredients

  • 1 9-inch pie crust
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 6 eggs
  • 1/4 C. sugar
  • 2 C. milk OR 1-3/4 C. milk + 1/4 C. half-and-half
  • 1 tsp. cornstarch
  • Nutmeg, sprinkled on top OR 1+ tsp vanilla

Directions

Put pie crust in pie plate and brush with beaten egg. Whisk together 6 eggs, sugar, milk (or milk and half-and-half) and cornstarch. Pour into pie shell. Sprinkle with nutmeg. If you do not wish to use nutmeg, you may add 1 tsp. vanilla to liquid mix. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes or until set.
