While many beer can chicken recipes are made on the grill, this tender and flavorful chicken is baked in the oven. You get the same delicious chicken, but without the hassle of cooking on a grill!

  • 1/4 C. garlic powder
  • 2 Tbs. seasoned salt
  • 2 Tbs. onion powder
  • 1 Tbs. dried oregano
  • 1 Tbs. salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 2 (12 oz.) cans light beer
  • 1 (3 lb.) whole chicken
  • 4 green onions, sliced
  • 4 green onions, halved crosswise

Heat the oven to 350 degrees. In a bowl, mix the garlic powder, seasoned salt, onion powder, dried oregano, salt, and pepper and set aside. Into a 9x13 baking dish, pour 1/3 of one can of beer. Place this can in the center of the dish. Rinse the chicken under cold water, discard the giblets and neck, drain, and pat dry. Fit the chicken onto the can of beer, legs down. With the breast facing you, cut two small slits in the sides of the bird and tuck the wings into them. Rub the seasoning mix on the chicken evenly. Press the sliced green onions onto the bird. It's okay if some fall into the beer. Press the halved green onions into the top cavity of the chicken. Open the remaining beer and pour half of it into the pan under the chicken. Bake the chicken for 45 minutes, then pour the remaining half of the beer into the pan. Continue to cook for another 30 minutes, or until the chicken is completely cooked. Remove the chicken from the oven and discard the beer can. Cover the chicken and let it sit for 10 minutes before cutting.
