  • 1 ½ sticks butter, softened
  • 1 C. brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • ¾ C. molasses
  • 4 C. flour
  • 2 tsp. ginger
  • 1 ½ tsp. baking soda
  • 1 ½ tsp. cinnamon
  • ¾ tsp. cloves
  • Dash salt

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a bowl, combine flour, ginger, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, and salt; set aside. In a large bowl, use a mixer to cream together butter and sugar until fluffy. Beat in egg and molasses until creamy. Gradually add in dry ingredients and mix until well combined. Form into a ball of dough, cover, and refrigerate overnight. Roll out dough on a floured surface and cut out shapes with your cookie cutters. Transfer cookies to a baking sheet and bake for 8 to 10 minutes until edges are firm. Transfer to a cooling rack, let cool completely, and decorate!
