Poached Pears with Chestnuts

Ingredients
- 6 ripe dessert pears
- 2 C. water
- 1 C. sugar
- 1 cinnamon stick
- strip lemon rind
- juice of half a lemon
- 1 jar chestnuts in syrup
Directions
Make a syrup by dissolving sugar in water with cinnamon, lemon rind, and juice. Bring syrup to a boil and boil for 5 minutes. Peel and core the pears. Lower each pear into gently simmering syrup as soon as it is peeled. Poach pears for 20 minutes. Cool pears, cut each in half, and arrange on a dish. Place a chestnut on each pear.
