Poached Spiced Pear

Cooked pears have an amazingly sweet flavor that comes out when heated. The pears are tender and tasty, completely absorbing the flavor of the wine and bright orange juice flavor. This is good enough without the chocolate, even better with!

In a medium saucepan, put together the wine, sugar, orange juice (and peel), cinnamon, and cloves. Bring this to a boil and lower it to a simmer. Cut half an inch off of the bottom of the pears and peel them. Place the pears in the saucepan and poach for 20 minutes, turning every so often until they’re tender but firm. Serve them with warm dipping chocolate and icecream.
