When I was a little girl I remember going to my Grandma's house on a Sunday afternoon. For a special treat she would fry up a batch of apple fritters. She couldn't keep the plate full - we devoured them that fast!

Peel, core and slice the apples into 1/4-inch rings. Put in bowl with lemon juice so they do not brown. Sift the dry ingredients together. Add the milk and butter. Mix. Pat the apple rings dry so dough sticks to rings. Make the dough stiff enough to dip the apple rings. Fry in canola oil at least 1/2 inch deep. Drain on paper towel. Serve. You can sprinkle cinnamon sugar over the rings if preferred.
