  • 1 lb. dried black beans
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cumin
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 Tbsp. butter

Add the beans to a pot and cover with 2 inches of cold water. Put in the garlic, onions, cumin, and season with salt and pepper. Simmer for about 2 hours or until the beans are tender and the liquid is thickened. Melt the butter in a skillet and add the beans. Mash them to the desired consistency and cook for about 4 minutes.
