  • Cake:
  • ⅔ C. butter, at room temperature
  • 2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 2 C. all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1⅓ C. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • ¼ tsp. salt
  • 1 C. buttermilk
  • Frosting:
  • ½ C. butter, at room temperature
  • 3 C. powdered sugar, sifted
  • ⅔ C. sour cream
  • 6 oz. dark chocolate, chopped
  • ⅓ C. cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Spray 2 cake pans with cooking spray. Beat the butter and sugar until it is fluffy. Add in the eggs, vanilla extract, flour, baking powder, and salt. Divide the batter into both of the pans. Let them bake for 25-30 minutes. Let it cool on a cooling rack. For the frosting melt the chocolate in a saucepan. Add in the cocoa, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and sour cream. Add the frosting on one baked cake. Place the other half over the other. Spread the remaining frosting over the whole cake.
