I use a chuck roast, cut into serving pieces. Sprinkle with the soup mix, top with drained diced tomatoes. In a saucepan combine reserved tomato juice, & 1 tablespoon cornstarch, stir in1 tablespoon ketchup & 1 teaspoon worcestershire sauce. Bring it to a boil. Cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thick and bubbly. pour over the meat. And seal the foil. Bake at 425 degrees for 2-21/2 hours.
I make this in the oven on days that I'm at home. Take 2 large pieces of foil (heavy duty best), center roast on top of foil, top with can of drained mushrooms, 2 cans cream of mushroom soup, broth or water, then sprinkle onion soup mix over the top. Drugstore wrap the foil, place packet on baking dish and roast for about 3 hours at 325 degrees. Just yummy and hardly any cleanup!
my grandmother use to make this when i was growing up.( she's passed away) I try to make it and the flavors are there but I must be not buying a good beef roast.what cut is best please?
This dish was amazing!! There is a total of 8 people in my household and it went over with flying colors!! My daughter who is extremely picky, loved this dish!! I made it with homemade mashed potatoes and used some of the gravy from the meat for the gravy on the mashed potatoes. There was also a blend of corn and green beans for the vegetable. Awesome!!
