Serving Size / Yield
- 1 ¼ lbs of ground beef
- 8 slices of bacon
- 1/4 cup of mustard
- 1/2 cup of sauerkraut, drained
- 4 small loaves crusty bread, halved
Begin by cooking your bacon. In a skillet, cook the bacon until crispy, between 5 and 10 minutes. When the bacon is nice and crispy, put the bacon on a paper towel lined plate. The paper towel will sop up any excess grease. Set aside to cool.
Now you want to get your grill going so that it is hot when you are ready to cook. You should set the grill to medium-high. Take the ground beef and form it into four ¾ inch thick patties. Using your fingers, make a shallow well on the top of each burger. This will prevent the burger from overplumping while you are cooking. Season the patties with half of the salt and pepper.
Place the patties on the grill, well side up, for about five minutes. Flip over the burger and cook until your desired doneness and remove from heat.
Cut the bread in half. Spread each piece of bread with the mustard. Put the burgers in the bread and add the bacon and the sauerkraut.
This dish is excellent with potato chips or french fries.
