An easy, baked casserole also featuring cheddar cheese, fresh bread, and eggs.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. breakfast sausage
  • 1 (13 oz.) can evaporated milk
  • 1 1/2 slices bread, cubed
  • 5 eggs
  • 2 C. cheddar cheese, grated
  • Season to taste

Directions

Prepare evening before. Cook sausage and drain thoroughly on paper towels. Beat the 5 eggs and evaporated milk slightly. Add sausage, cubed bread and cheddar cheese. Pour into 9 X 9 in. casserole and cover with plastic wrap. Bake uncovered for 45 minutes or until firm, in a preheated 350 degree oven.

  • For the consideration of those who are new to cooking and for the sake of clarity, the recipe directions certainly could have included the steps "Refrigerate overnight" and "Remove plastic wrap and bake..." .
    Recipes (like any directions) are better written with too much information rather than not enough. No one ever gets lost with too much information.

  • I have made this the night before every Christmas for 10 years and no one has ever gotten sick.
    "Bake uncovered" would mean to remover the plastic wrap.

  • You prepare this the night before, cover with wrap and refrigerate. In the morning, remove the wrap and bake as directed. TIP: Spray your casserole dish with a cooking spray before pouring mixture into it for easy cleaning. This is a wonderful, tasty dish which I have made countless times with no one getting sick.

  • "Prepare the evening before"??
    You can cook the sausage the night before and store it in the fridge, but DO NOT EVER mix the eggs in before you are ready to bake. Doing so risks becoming very ill.

  • There seems to be some directions that have been left out. Between covering it with the plastic wrap and baking it in the oven. If the recipe is followed as is the plastic wrap will melt all over everything and make a nasty mess.

  • I lay the bread pieces on the bottom of pan then add sausage,egg,chesse, milk makes a good bottom crust
