This a fine Lenten dish that I like to serve with rice pilaf.

Time needed

45 min preparation + 2 hour cooking

Ingredients

  • 1/4 C. oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 lg. bell pepper, chopped
  • 1/4 tsp. red pepper
  • 1/4 tsp. powdered thyme
  • 2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 2 tsp. leaf parsley, finely chopped
  • salt to taste
  • pepper to taste
  • 1 lg. can tomatoes
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1/2 tsp. celery seeds
  • 2 lbs. raw, shelled shrimp

Directions

Sauté onions, garlic, parsley and bell pepper in oil. Add salt and pepper to taste. Then add the tomatoes and cook to a rich sauce with the seasonings--red pepper, bay leaves, celery seeds and thyme for about 1 hour. Add the raw, shelled shrimp. Cover and cook for 1 hour. Thirty minutes before serving, add 2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce.
