Baked beans are an important part of summer barbecues, but no one wants to heat up the kitchen to make them! The perfect solution is slow cooked baked beans made in the crockpot! If you want meat in the baked beans, add pork, or hot dogs for a more kid-friendly version.

  • 2 lb. dried navy beans
  • 2 C. water, plus more for soaking and simmering beans
  • 1 C. ketchup
  • 3/4 C. brown sugar
  • 1/4 C. molasses
  • 2 Tbs. Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tsp. dry mustard
  • 1 1/2 tsp. onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp. salt

In a large pot place the rinsed beans. Cover the beans with water and bring to a boil Turn the heat off, place the lid on the pot, and soak the beans for at least 1 hour. Drain the water. Cover the beans with fresh water and simmer for an additional hour. Drain the beans.

Put the beans in a crockpot and add the ketchup, brown sugar, molasses, dry mustard, onion powder, salt, Worcestershire sauce, and water. Stir to combine. Cook the beans on low for 8 hours, or until the beans are tender.
