  • 3 C. flour
  • 3/4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 C. butter, softened
  • 1 C. sugar
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 Tbs. milk
  • powdered sugar, for rolling out dough

In a bowl, combine the flour, baking powder and salt. In a second bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light in color. Add in the egg and milk. Continue to beat until well combined. While beating on a low speed, gradually add in the flour mixture. Beat until the dough starts to pull away from the sides of the bowl. Divide in half, wrap in waxed paper, and refrigerate for 2 hours.

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Sprinkle a clean surface with powdered sugar. Remove half the dough from the fridge and roll it out on the powdered surface. Roll it out until it is 1/4-in. thick. Move the dough around and check under the dough frequently to make sure it doesn't stick. Add more powdered sugar as necessary.

Cut the dough into the desired shapes and place them 1-in. apart on a greased baking sheet. Bake for 7 to 9 minutes, or until the cookies are just beginning to brown around the edges. Let them sit on the tray for 2 minutes then remove from the tray and cool completely on a wire rack. Serve as is or frost.
