  • 2 C. milk
  • 1 Tbs. unsalted butter
  • 2 Tbs. orange zest
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1/3 C. sugar
  • ¼ tsp. salt
  • ½ loaf challah or brioche bread, cut into 2-inch pieces
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • ¼ C. golden raisins

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a small saucepan, heat milk, butter, orange zest vanilla, sugar, and salt over low heat. Stir occasionally until butter melts. Let cool. Grease a 3 or 4 qt. baking dish. Fill with cubed bread. Add eggs to milk mixture and whisk. Pour evenly over bread. Sprinkle raisins on top. Bake for 35-45 minutes. Serve immediately or cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate. To reheat, bake at 275 for 15-18 minutes or until warmed.
